Peterhead named Fishing Port of the Year

Peterhead Port Authority was named Fishing Port of the Year at the recent Fishing News awards ceremony in Edinburgh.

The award recognises success in recent years as quality service and past infrastructure improvements reap rewards with increased business from the fishing sector.

John Wallace, Chief Executive of Peterhead Port Authority said, "Everybody at PPA is delighted to win the Fishing News Port of the Year award. Credit for this achievement goes to all the skippers, crews, buyers, processors and support companies who have contributed to the success of Peterhead."

"Construction of the deepwater Merchants and Albert quays with modern temperature controlled fishmarket; state of the art pelagic processing factories and shiplift with indoor repair berth are some of the projects that have contributed to the successful performance at Peterhead."

"Whilst new developments and quality infrastructure are clearly important, in isolation this does not guarantee an efficient operation. The main catalyst for success is the personnel that manage and use these facilities. Without the dedication, knowledge and skill of these people the full potential of the ongoing developments around the port would not be realised."
